Our Seminarians

Curtis Gross

It has been a great year so far as I complete my final lap in formation for the priesthood. All of the transitional deacons are assigned to parishes where we help out with preaching at Mass and baptizing infants. This year I am ministering at St. Susanna in Mason where there is a significant Hispanic population. It has been great serving, listening to feedback, developing relationships, and sharpening my skills in Hispanic ministry. I have also just completed my academic thesis to obtain a master's degree in theology. My thesis is entitled: “The Meaning of the State of Grace Applied to Critical Questions in Moral Theology.” Otherwise, I’m just enjoying the community life in the seminary, as well as family time whenever I can fit it in! I hope to visit St. Margaret of York again soon; the SMOY community is in my prayers.

It's hard to believe we are already approaching 2026 and I'm wrapping up the first semester of my second year in formation. God is so good and I am always thankful for all of your prayers and support. Here at the seminary as part of my house job, I lead tours for visiting groups to take them around campus, share the history of the seminary, and tell them more about what we do here and what it's like to be in formation for the priesthood. Recently, I was excited to welcome SMOY's fifth-grade class to give them a tour and to hang out with them for half the day. It was a blast answering their questions and seeing so many familiar faces! I'm looking forward to seeing many more over the holidays during Advent and the Christmas season!
