Music
Welcome to Our Music Ministry!
“I will sing to the Lord all my life. I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.”
-Psalm 104:33
About the Music Ministry
The Music Ministry’s goal is to serve God, to give back as an offering of the gifts He has so graciously bestowed to us, and to engage the assembly through sung prayer. We have two choirs and volunteer instrumentalists who participate by giving of their time and talent in serving the SMOY community.
Adult Choir
The Adult Choir rehearses Tuesday evenings and typically sings at the 11:00 Sunday morning Mass. Choristers sing a broad range of repertoire, enjoy outside activities to grow in fellowship, and participate in Lessons and Carols, an Advent anthem service at SMOY.
Children’s Choir
The Children’s Choir rehearses Monday after school gets out, to prepare for Tuesday school Masses, as well as some Sunday services. They too prepare for Lessons and Carols, and even have the occasional opportunity to cantor.
Instrumentalists
Volunteer instrumentalists who are interested in offering their talents are encouraged to join. Contact Tony Arnold for more details.
An Advent Tradition: Lessons and Carols
We remember and recall the story of our salvation history, so that it may prepare us to receive more fervently, more prayerfully, and more joyful the Christ-child. Enjoy "Lessons and Carols," one of Advent's most beloved traditions. Lessons and Carols is a Christmas celebration that dates back well over one hundred years and is followed around the world in a multitude of different places.
Music ministers at St. Margaret of York are passionate servants of the Gospel who use the gift of music to bring the Scriptures alive in the hearts of our congregation.
