  • Annulments

An Annulment (or Declaration of Nullity) is a declaration by a Church tribunal (a Catholic church court) that a marriage thought to be valid according to Church law actually fell short of at least one of the essential elements required for a binding union.

Though often misunderstood, the annulment process can, in fact, be a source of healing after a broken marriage.

From the Archdiocese of Cincinnati website

What are the Church Teachings regarding Annulments? How long is the process? If a marriage is declared null, does it mean that the marriage never existed? Get the facts to these questions and more at For Your Marriage, an initiative of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

    Making Arrangements
  • Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) are laypeople who assist the Ordinary Ministers (Priests, and Deacons) in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ during Mass.

EMHC receive spiritual, theological, and practical preparation to fulfill their role with knowledge and reverence.  Such preparation addresses the theology of the true presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, the appropriate demeanor for distribution, and the manner in which to handle the consecrated bread and wine.

To serve as an EMHC at SMOY, one must be a confirmed member of the Catholic faith and be trained and commissioned at SMOY.  Training sessions are held periodically throughout the year and are announced in the bulletin and via other SMOY communications.  All who are interested in bringing Christ to His people through distribution of the Holy Eucharist are welcome!
