First Communion Preparation
The mission of our First Communion Prep program is to foster reverence for the True Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Throughout the year students prepare to experience God’s unending mercy in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, come to a deeper understanding of the Mass, and learn how we join together as one family at the Lord’s table.
First Communion preparation typically takes place during the student’s 2nd grade year through St. Margaret of York School or our Family Faith program. Additional elements include 3 retreats. The student must have received regular 1st grade religious education instruction via an approved channel in order to take part in First Communion prep during their 2nd grade year.
Students who are homeschooled or take part in religious education at another Catholic school are welcome to participate in First Communion Prep at SMOY. Although the entire program may not be required, some elements will still be essential in order to foster the student’s growth in community within our parish. Please contact Jacilyn Jackson at jjackson@smoy.org to come up with a personalized plan for your student.
We offer adaptive preparation for children with special needs. Please reach out to Jacilyn for more information.
Everyone’s faith journey is different. If your child is beyond 2nd grade and has not received First Communion, if your child has not yet been baptized, or if you are an adult seeking First Communion please reach out to Jacilyn Jackson at jjackson@smoy.org (for youth) or Birgitt Hacker at bhacker@smoy.org (for adults) so we can guide you and walk with you on the next steps of your journey.
*Registration for the 2026-2027 school year will open in the spring.

Please contact Jacilyn with any questions you may have.
