Journey to Faith

All youth faith formation programs are dependent upon the commitment of parents and the parish family, as partners and as members of a loving community of believers. Various programs are offered periodically in the parish and throughout the Archdiocese to further the knowledge of the catechist in the Catholic faith which, in turn, allows them to better educate their students.

Our programs provide quality faith formation for the children of our parish, but also for their parents and families. Active participation in on-going faith formation is expected of all parents whose children participate in the program.  Parents who are regular participants in family or adult faith formation attest to the ways in which their lives and the life of their family is enriched as a result of their commitment to grow as disciples.

It is the responsibility of the parents to plan for the Mass attendance of their children.

Religious Education Programs

Catechesis of the Good Shepard (CGS)

(Age 3 - Grade K)

The "Carechesis of the Good Shephers" is a dynamic program for the “little ones”, ages 3 thru Kindergarten. It is the same program that had been offered last year, but called “3, 4, 5 Alive”. St. Margaret of York has four catechists trained and certified in this Montessori-type approach to children’s faith formation. This program is offered from September - May on Sunday mornings during the 9:00am and 11:00am Masses.

Parish Religion Program (PRP)

(Grade 1 - 6)

St. Margaret of York PRP provides faith formation for children in grades 1-6 who attend public schools. PRP includes session options during the summer, for 1st grade – 6th grade, as well as the academic year on Sunday mornings. Families choose the option that best supports parents in their role as primary educators of their children.

7/8 Faith Formation

(Grade 7-8)

The faith formation for 7th and 8th graders is through our 7/8 Youth Group. Last year, in the Fall of 2016, we transitioned our 7th and 8th grade students from a PRP classroom model, to a faith formation experience that would occur in a catechetical youth ministry setting. This transition was developed from current research in adolescent development/trends in youth ministry, and has been adopted by a growing number of Catholic parishes in the United States.

We take our curriculum from Lifeteen Edge, a Catholic resource tailored toward Middle School students, and supplement the different evenings with dinner, games, activities, media presentations, large and small group discussion time, Scripture, praise and worship, Adoration, and other opportunities for prayer and fellowship.  This youth group is a blend open to all 7th and 8th graders in the parish, regardless of where they attend school. Our goal is to continue to provide a safe, fun place for youth to find solid Catholic community, to get answers to their questions about faith, and, most importantly, to experience Jesus in a profound and personal way.
